Top Northern Governor Approves ₦70,000 Minimum Wage For Civil Servants In His State

The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has approved the payment of ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the state.

This was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on salary and pension, Bashir Ado, during the local government polls on Saturday while responding to a question from newsmen on the government’s plan for the implementation of the minimum wage.

Ado, who is also a member of the minimum wage implementation committee in Jigawa State, said the committee has also completed 90% of its work on the implementation of the new minimum wage for workers.

According to him, “Governor Umar Namadi has already approved the ₦70,000 as minimum wage; what remains is for the committee to complete its assigned responsibility for the implementation.”

He added that once the committee completes its assignment, it would present the report to Governor Namadi for onward approval of the new salary structure.

He said the state has about nine salary structures, and those with special salary scales that are above the minimum wage will enjoy consequential adjustment.

Ado explained that the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state have seen the salary template and are pleased with the amount each civil servant will receive.

“I am sure civil servants will laugh and appreciate Governor Umar Namadi’s effort when they see the salary increase,” he added.

The 10-member committee to implement the new minimum wage in Jigawa State, is headed by the State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, with the Permanent Private Secretary to the Governor serving as Secretary.
