Nigerian Army Speaks On Mass Resignation Of Soldiers Over Low Morale And Corruption

The Nigerian Army Headquarters has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct by Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano.

Naija News gathered that Brigadier General Sadiq was removed from his post amid accusations of withholding entitlements intended for his subordinates and other reported instances of misappropriation during his command.

A military source revealed that the general is currently in custody as the investigation continues.

Brigade matters are strictly handled by the Army Headquarters and not Defence Headquarters as being speculated. The general in question has been removed following allegations by some soldiers that he was sitting on some of the entitlements meant for them, among other things. He was invited for questioning and is still in custody,” the source said.

When approached for comment, Brig Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, directed the Vanguard correspondent to the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu.

Major General Nwachukwu confirmed the ongoing investigation, citing “administrative discrepancies” during Brigadier General Sadiq’s tenure, which led to his removal to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.

He added that the Nigerian Army, grounded in discipline and accountability, has zero tolerance for any conduct that could compromise its values.

The immediate past Commander 3 Brigade Kano, Brigadier General MA Sadiq, is currently undergoing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies while he was Commander 3 Brigade. Consequently, the senior officer has been relieved of command to ensure a thorough investigation,” Nwachukwu stated.

He assured that the Army would conduct a thorough investigation, with consequences for any verified misconduct.

The Nigerian Army assures both our internal and external publics that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate administrative action will be taken. Our commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency remains unwavering.

“We guarantee that the process will be fair, impartial, and in line with our established procedures
,” Nwachukwu affirmed.
